Pre-Toddler
The Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers focuses on creating a strong relationship with each child. The first three years of your child’s life will include the greatest recognizable changes in growth and development. This is a time when children are discovering themselves emotionally, socially, physically and cognitively. A schedule will be put in place because predictability fosters the most relaxed learning environment. Routines will be created with hellos & goodbyes, diapering & toileting, eating, sleeping, and getting dressed. Within these routines, your child’s teacher will focus on individualizing activities, guiding proper behavior, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, and evaluating progress.
Wee Learn Christian Curriculum offers a unit-based program with Bible stories and pictures that create a theme for the unit. Some of the activities in which your toddler will participate include playing with toys, dabbling in art, imitating & pretending, enjoying stories and books, exploring sand and water, having fun with music and movement, and going outdoors.

A Sign of Communication
At about one year of age, your child will begin to sign back to you and
his or her teacher. It is the most amazing experience to watch little
minds achieve the ability to communicate. The Pre-Toddler Teachers at North
Star will continue using the American Sign Language that began in the Infants
classrooms. They will sign the most commonly used words while speaking them
to your child. If children are used to seeing signs they know, they will begin
to sign back. This will ease frustration when children are hungry, thirsty
or need help. The use of signs will encourage speech development and maintain
a safe comfortable classroom.
Including the Family
A child’s family is the most important part of his or her life. We wish
to include your family in the North Star family. A letter will be sent
home at the end of each unit explaining what we have been working on. It will
also offer activities that you can complete with your child at home so that
they know you are interested in what they are learning. Teachers will complete
developmental assessments of each child to share with you along with the next
steps for moving forward. We will ask that parents complete a progress report
on North Star and your child’s teacher so that we will understand how
you feel your child is progressing emotionally, physically and mentally. Continually
working with parents will allow us to perfect our curriculum and teaching strategies
so that we are offering the best service possible to you and your children.
